The goal of this Willoughby, Ohio homeowner was to eliminate the separation between the kitchen and the family room that occurs in a typical colonial layout, and create an “all in one” eating / gathering area. By removing the usual header and half wall, and running new hardwood flooring through both areas, the two old rooms became one.

New custom cabinetry and new granite counters were added to the existing kitchen area. New lighting was added to update the new look.

In the family room area, windows were resized to allow the installation of new custom bookshelves and fireplace surround.

The homeowners were pleased to work with a kitchen contractor who listened closely to their wishes and fulfilled their vision in a timely manner.

Remodeling a home is often a viable way to get the best of both worlds - a new room or addition in an older structure - and help sell your home when you're ready to relocate. Rick Childs, president and owner of R.C.Carpentry in Mentor, Ohio specializes in residential remodeling and says that investing in kitchens and bathrooms is a sound investment.
"A good kitchen update with a modernized floor plan and top end appliances may cost anywhere from $30,000.00 to well over $100,00.00", he says, "but when that homeowner goes to sell that house, chances are good he'll get it all back. Some things tend to hold their value, and kitchens and bathrooms are among the smartest ways to increase the value of your home."
